The third dwarf in the series! Interestingly enough, in the books Balin is actually younger than Thorin. Maybe Thorin just dyes his beard in the movie version to appear younger and more virile? Perhaps he uses Touch of Gray?
ALSO, in case you didn't remember Balin is the dwarf whose tomb the Fellowship finds in Moria in Lord of the Rings.
